This project aimed to study aspects of the reproductive biology of the Gundlach´s Hawk (Astur gundlachi), using several locations throughout Cuba as a baseline and focusing particularly on the mountain regions of eastern Cuba and the north coast in western Cuba.
The research generated valuable data for the conservation of the species, including its adaptability to different habitat types and the effects of indiscriminate logging on the reproductive success of these birds. The project also implemented a strategy to restore displaced nestlings into active damaged nests.
In addition, the study contributed to a deeper understanding of the natural history of the Cuban Sharp-shinned Hawk (Accipiter striatus fringilloides) and resulted in publications containing previously unpublished information on both species.
