Strategy to Minimize the Capture and Trafficking of Birds in Gibara, Cuba.

As part of the project “Mitigation Strategy to Address the Capture and Illegal Trade of Wild Birds in Gibara,” supported by the Judith Towle Conservation Fund, work was carried out together with the team of the Joaquín Fernández de la Vara Natural History Museum to implement actions aimed at confronting the capture and illegal trade of wild birds in the region.

The project focused on the development of comprehensive and collaborative strategies, combining environmental education, community engagement, and the strengthening of local capacities. Through a variety of initiatives, it was possible to raise public awareness about the importance of protecting avifauna and reducing harmful practices affecting wild bird populations.

The results achieved reflect significant progress in the community’s environmental awareness, as well as in the consolidation of sustainable conservation actions for the protection of birds in Gibara.
