"Birds of Cuba, A Comprehensive Field Guide" texts and illustrations by Nils Navarro

Nils is currently working on this ambitious and highly anticipated field guide project, whose goal is to provide a unique and indispensable tool for field identification. It will be fully updated and richly illustrated with more than 410 bird species recorded in Cuba, designed in such an innovative way that it requires no lengthy explanations, as its layout is intended to meet the full range of identification needs. The guide will include a greater number of illustrations than any similar publication in the region, featuring Nils’ own watercolor artwork, characterized by remarkable technical mastery and exceptional attention to detail, enriched by his extensive knowledge and experience in the field.

It is conceived as a novel guide in both concept and design—interactive, ergonomic, portable, intuitive, and easy to use—following the style of his first book,“Endemic Birds of Cuba, A Comprehensive Field Guide,”but significantly optimized for practical field use. It is designed to meet the identification needs of both professional ornithologists and birdwatchers, including advanced and amateur observers. To achieve this, Nils has drawn extensively on his experience as a field ornithologist and taxonomist, strengthened by many years serving as eBird editor and reviewer for Cuba. This work has allowed him to identify diagnostic characters that had previously neither been illustrated nor described.

This new guide aims to become the preferred companion for all bird enthusiasts in Cuba, from professional ornithologists to advanced and amateur birders alike. Edited and published by Ediciones Nuevos Mundos (Friendship Association), it will be published in both English and Spanish, and copies of the Spanish edition will be donated to institutions, libraries, protected areas, and conservation projects in Cuba.

Gratitude is expressed for the support provided by BirdsCaribbean, Ediciones Nuevos Mundos, Optics for the Tropics, Caribbean Conservation Trust, Hoolbrook Travel, and Idea Wild.

If you would like to support this important project, you can make a donation and become a sponsor of this edition.
